San Rafael, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) announced the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority has received $7,260,839 from the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to restore the runway at the Del Norte County Regional airport.

“People from all over the world travel to the North Coast to enjoy the beauty and culture our region has to offer. This regional airport serves as a gateway for these tourists as well as a hub for business transit and commerce. Investing in airport maintenance is essential for the safety of travelers and to the economies of these rural areas,” said Rep. Huffman. “We need to restore and improve our infrastructure to meet the increasing demands. I’m glad to have delivered this funding to boost safety, commerce, and tourism in air travel.”

“We are grateful for the grant awarded for the rehabilitation of Runway 18-36 and the associated LED lighting upgrades at the Del Norte County Regional Airport - Jack McNamara Field. This crucial investment in CEC not only enhances the safety and efficiency of our airport operations but also underscores the importance of maintaining and modernizing key infrastructure in our region. As a vital transportation hub, CEC plays a significant role in fostering tourism, which brings visitors and revenue to our area. Beyond tourism, the airport is a cornerstone of our regional economy, facilitating business travel, cargo transport, and access to remote areas, all of which contribute to the sustained economic development and growth of our community. This project represents a commitment to ensuring that our airport remains a reliable, modern facility that supports the diverse needs of our region now and in the future,” said Ryan Cooley, Airport Director, Border Coast Regional Airport Authority.

This project rehabilitates 5,002 feet of existing paved Runway 18/36 to maintain the structural integrity and minimize foreign object debris to extend its useful life.
